Move it!

I haven’t used this pair of jeans for the longest time. I think it’s because it’s high-waisted and it’s a bit loose-fitting. But I see it all the time in my closet so today I decided to wear it.

I call it my ciento jeans because I bought it for only 100 pesos. I sewed on the beads in October 2006 but even then the jeans have already been with me a few years. Just imagine how old this article of clothing is! I have a bunch of other clothes that old, some even older. I guess it just goes to show how non-trendy I am when it comes to clothes (and almost everything else). I only have basics, timeless pieces and ones that I really, really, really like. Following trends isn’t something I like doing. Hence, I personalize, like so:

Inherited from my mother (and grandmother), these legs have been a distinguishing feature for the females of the mother side of my family. When we see old photos of my mom or my aunts, the usual comment is on the legs: “Fenix nga ‘yan, ang laki ng binti, eh!” It’s something that we girls have accepted because it’s a feature we could not avoid and have to live with, but it’s not like we’re complaining. :p

“It’s not a target!!”

I often react violently when people say that my shirt is a target or a bull’s eye. It’s actually the logo of the Royal Air Force, a little detail I learned through researching on my favorite author, Roald Dahl. It was the one of the two selling points when I bought this shirt. The other was Snoopy the Red Baron perched on top, from my favorite comic strip, Peanuts.

Needless to say, I absolutely love this shirt for those details, its color, and the perfect fit.

The three kiddos are actually children of my cousin at the left, but I claim them as mine, especially since the two at the right (Kate and Miguel) have inherited my looks and the youngest one at the left (Jerome) competes for my attention (or, at least, my lap to sit on). My aunts always point out how Kate looks so much like me when I was her age. They even showed an old photo of me to Jerome and asked who it was. He answered, “Katkat,” and pointed to his sister.

I love my kids.

This year’s independence day is highlighted by this rare sight along Commonwealth Avenue. My dad quipped that the dude’s late for the parade. Kidding aside, this thing is awesome! It runs perfectly (i.e. no knocking or other noise, and isn’t belching smoke) and has a lot of authentic looking accessories. Just look at it! His jeep is complete down to the last detail! Well, except maybe the modern license plate. Other than that, it looks like a piece robbed from some military museum somewhere. So cool.

Before I send this skirt to the laundry, I wore it again today. I’ve mentioned before that I can’t seem to go all-out girly, and today isn’t an exception. Although, until I went downstairs for breakfast I was still unsure if I should wear this outfit. Eventually I did, and I had fun with it. I got funny comments that I looked like (1) a cheerleader and (2) a dessert, particularly a blueberry cheesecake. I’m not sure if those are a compliments, but I’m taking it positively. I answered by saying that I was ube and keso ice cream.

I may be a dessert, but this blueberry cheesecake loves devil’s food cake and tea!

Today I looked like a human being! I wore proper clothing, but I couldn’t resist the playful zebra stripes. It was a good move, too, because if I wore anything less girly I might’ve been mistaken for a boy for my…um…. flatness… and my hands that look like those of a thin boy.

My morning (and only) class is postponed to Friday, so I went straight to the Registrar’s office to pay for my additional 3 units. It was quite a long wait on the line, but we had seats so it was kinda okay. After that I didn’t have anything else to do so I went to SM to have my laptop checked because I get a lot of blue screen moments and it’s quite frustrating. Plus, I’m expecting to use Nanashi the laptop a lot more for official business so I need him to be more reliable. After talking to Chris of Laptop Repair in SM Annex and having him check the hardware out, he took out one of the 1GB RAMs and let me try and observe the performance. It appears that the problem is about memory management and the two 1GB RAMs are not working well together anymore. I said I’d observe it some more and come back if I still get BSODs. So far so good, I haven’t had an error or blue screen since.

I had a meal before going to consult about my laptop and I didn’t want to go home just yet so I hung out at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, ordered my favorite Moroccan Mint Tea Latte and spent the rest of the afternoon there.

Time and time again, I’ve experienced first days of school being spent inside a classroom or at the nearest snack/fishball/isaw stand waiting in vain for the prof to arrive. Sometimes, as in the case of Arki, this even happens during the whole first week of class. Some professors have the decency to announce the actual date of our first meeting in advance, but some simply don’t show up. I’ve learned to bring some sort of entertainment to while away the time: a book, a music player, a sketchpad. I make plan B’s in my head so I know where to hang out in the (very likely) occurrence of a no-show.

But this time it’s different. Despite the fact that I only had one class today, I went to school early to try and get another 3-unit class. I did get it, but also learned that one of my already paid for classes got dissolved and I had to go to arki to clear up the matter. The problem is, the only other schedule available for that class is already overbooked by one and the registration assistant was already advising me to have my payment refunded and I take the class next sem. I just had 11 freakin’ units. I don’t wanna delay any more subjects that I could take now. Thankfully, I had a chat with the college dean about my situation and had him vouch for me through a letter asking the class’ instructor to accommodate me. Ah, the perks of having your ex-adviser become the dean of the college, I am enjoying it.

My adventure of getting an additional 3 units and trying to fix the dissolved class issue took me back and forth between CHE and Arki multiple times. Add to that my afternoon class which was handled by a substitute for the day (Surprise, I had a class on the first day!) and the fact that I brought my heavy-ass laptop to school today, you get a very, very tired me.
